My NCT antenatal education classes are for groups of up to nine couples from the local area. Parents usually come to NCT classes during the last trimester of their pregnancy.
An NCT class is focussed on helping to prepare you for pregnancy, birth and beyond and will provide you with the opportunity to meet others and explore issues around birth and early parenthood. The class format is flexible so it can meet your needs but we are likely to cover:
- Pregnancy and birth choices
- Choosing where to have your baby
- Body awareness, relaxation, breathing and massage
- Home births and water births
- What happens in labour and how the baby is born
- Pain relief – natural and medical methods
- Your labour and the role of the partner in labour
- What complications might arise – e.g. Caesarean birth
- Looking after a newborn and feeding your baby
- Early parenting, lifestyle changes
A session with a breastfeeding counsellor is included as well as a postnatal session to talk about how things have gone and to meet the new babies.
Cost: £140 – £190
Course prices vary because weekday sessions are cheaper, and because the number of hours in a course varies too.
Reduced fees on NCT courses are available to anyone with a family income below £25,000 a year. Payment by instalments is welcome.
